Sweety and Pratik Rao welcome the Orillia community to try Fat Bastard Burrito Co., which is now open on Memorial Avenue.

Fat Bastard Burrito Co. recently opened its doors at 205 Memorial Ave.

The new Orillia location is the 50th store in Ontario under the Fat Bastard Burrito Co. banner and is owned by the Rao family, who are from India.

“We are excited to bring Fat Bastard Burrito to the local people,” said Sweety Rao, associate, who is related to owners Parimal and Deval Rao.

Rao says her family decided to open their new take-out restaurant in Orillia after seeing the success of the Fat Bastard Burrito Co. establishments in Barrie.

“In Barrie there are already two Fat Bastard Burritos and we get people from Orillia travelling to Barrie to get our food. People like our cheeses and sauces so we thought it would be a good opportunity to come to Orillia,” she said.

The Fat Bastard menu features Mexican staples such as quesadillas, tacos, burritos and desserts and offers vegetarian options of their dishes.

“We give people so many options - chicken, beef, beans, pork, steak - and we even have a naked burrito where people can take it in a little or big bowl," Rao explained.

What sets Fat Bastard apart is not only their wide range of selection, but the quality of the food, and the convenience of it, Rao explained.

“Our sauces are a main attraction for the people. We have three different sizes for the burritos from light to huge, so people just have so many options here, it’s easy to come here and get food to take food on the go,” she said.

Since moving to Orillia, the Rao family has felt well supported by the community, she said.

“The people were excited when they saw that we were coming soon to Orillia, and we were just as excited to come here. People have been giving us good reviews and have been giving us a good response,” Rao said.

“We are happy to be a part of this community and have the good opportunity to be here.”
