The first outdoor flea market at Orillia’s former train station opens Saturday.

The market, at 150 Front St. S., will be open every Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., starting this weekend.

“It’s long overdue,” said Jimi McKee, an artist who is renting space in the building to sell his work. “The town has been building substantially in the past couple of years and people want small items to make their place look artistic, and that’s where flea markets come in.”

Fifteen vendors are expected to be selling items during this weekend’s outdoor flea market, and McKee is hoping it will draw attention to the new indoor market, too.

McKee’s spot includes “a diverse mix of original art and sculptures.”

“It’s a little bit of everything I’ve done for the past 60 years,” he said.

For those looking to snag something special at the outdoor market, McKee has some advice: “Get there early. All the pickers in the area will be there early.”

The hours of operation for the indoor vendors are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Sunday to Wednesday and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday.

Indoor vendors include McKee, Tim Woodward, A Liquidation Inc., LuckyFine, Triple C Collectables and a liquidation vendor. Property manager Gregory Harris is also working on opening MGB Eatery inside.
