Former Olympic sprinter to sign autographs at local car show

Ben Johnson, who 'likes Orillia and (likes) getting out of the city,' will be at Muscle Mouse Auto Spa on James Street on Aug. 28

The 1987-88 world’s fastest man will race into Orillia next weekend.

Former Canadian Olympic sprinter Ben Johnson will be at Muscle Mouse Auto Spa, which is hosting an open house and a car show on Aug. 28, to sign autographs.

“He likes Orillia and getting out of the city,” says owner Val Gambone, owner of Muscle Mouse Auto Spa at 220 James St. W.

Johnson will sign autographs from 12 to 3 p.m., and Gambone expects he will be a big draw.

“It’s been a long time from when he was running,” he said. “People want to know what he’s doing now, and a lot of people still like him.”

The event that runs from 12 to 4 p.m. will give community members an opportunity to see the Muscle Mouse shop and learn more about the services the auto-detailing business provides.

“I just thought this would be a cool thing for people to do on their Sunday afternoon,” Gambone said.

Twenty to 40 showcase vehicles will be on display during the event, with vehicle owners coming from various parts of Ontario.

“There will be a combination of everything,” Gambone said. “There will be classic cars, trucks, vintage cars, and high-end cars.”
