Forty firefighters battle blaze at Oro-Medonte farmhouse

Cause of fire at abandoned farmhouse yet to be determined, officials say

A fire at an abandoned farmhouse in Oro-Medonte on Wednesday required tankers and up to 40 firefighters to help quell the blaze.

Oro-Medonte Fire and Emergency Services received a call at approximately 7:32 p.m with the report of a structure fire at 135 Line 10 S.

A Township of Oro-Medonte official stated the first of the crews arrived to a "fully involved" fire at the two-storey farmhouse.

“I can confirm no injuries on scene (and) the house was a total loss with no determination on cause. The (Office of the Fire Marshal) was not involved and crews had the fire under control by 10:30 p.m.,” says a statement from the township.

“We left a crew overnight until heavy machinery could be brought in this morning to assist with final extinguishment.”

Crews cleared the scene by 10 a.m. Thursday.

Due to the location, five of the fire department’s six stations responded, with some assistance from a tanker from the Severn fire department.
