Gas leak near Orillia hospital closes streets in area

Could be seven hours before roads reopen: OPP

A large area near downtown Orillia has been closed to traffic due to a gas leak.

The City of Orillia issued a tweet stating the following road closures are in effect: intersections of O’Brien and Mississaga streets, and Dunlop and Colborne streets, Mississaga Street from O’Brien to Albert, Dunlop Street from Colborne to Mississaga, and William Sttreet at Mary Street. The city said there is no risk to public safety.

OPP said it could be seven hours before the roads are reopened and they are asking people to avoid the area.

Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital tweeted the following:

“Access into our main parking lot is currently restricted as crews investigate a nearby gas leak. Sorry for the inconvenience. Vehicles are being allowed to leave the lot. Private lots are available nearby. Pedestrian access to main entrance is open.”
