Gen. Richard Rohmer to receive honorary degree at Georgian

Two entrepreneurs will be invested as Fellows as graduates from all seven campuses cross the stage at Barrie Molson Centre event

General Richard Rohmer will receive an honorary degree and Barrie entrepreneurs Tom McBride and Chris Gariepy will be invested as Fellows at Georgian College convocations on June 18 and 19.

Approximately 2,900 students are eligible to graduate from 136 programs as part of four convocation ceremonies slated for the Barrie Molson Centre.

Graduates have completed programs at all seven Georgian campuses in Barrie, Midland, Muskoka, Orangeville, Orillia, Owen Sound and South Georgian Bay (Collingwood).

Special presentations include:

  •  Honorary Lieutenant-General Richard Rohmer of the Canadian Armed Forces, a decorated Canadian aviator, respected lawyer, author of more than 30 books and recognized historian, will be presented with a Board of Governors’ Honorary Bachelor of Applied Studies during the 10 a.m. ceremony on June 18. General Rohmer, who lives in Collingwood, is also Chancellor Emeritus of the University of Windsor.
  • Barrie-area entrepreneur and community champion Chris Gariepy, who served for six years on Georgian’s Board of Governors, including one year as Chair, will be invested as a Fellow of Georgian College during the 10 a.m. ceremony on June 19.
  • Barrie-area entrepreneur and well-respected philanthropist Tom McBride, who served for six years on Georgian’s Board of Governors, including two years as Chair, will be invested as a Fellow of Georgian College during the 4 p.m. ceremony on June 19.
  • The presentations will be made after Georgian College President and CEO MaryLynn West-Moynes provides opening remarks. 

Ceremonies take place at:

  • 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Tuesday, June 18
  • 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19

Note: We live stream our convocation ceremonies so that family near and far who cannot attend in person can watch their graduate cross the stage. The videos will be posted on our website so people can watch live.
