Girls hockey tourney will shatter record this weekend

Orillia’s largest annual hockey tournament just keeps getting bigger.

This weekend, the 22nd annual Orillia Girls Hockey Association Tournament will see a record 106 teams compete in various age groups and divisions.

Action will begin Friday morning at 8 a.m. and when the whistle finally blows to signal the end of action late Sunday afternoon, more than 200 games will have been played.

This year’s tournament headquarters will be Orillia’s Rotary Place, whose two rinks will be filled with non-stop action all weekend. Games will also take place at the Brian Orser Arena, the Gravenhurst Community Centre, the Coldwater and District Community Centre, both rinks at the East Bayfield Centre in Barrie, the Mnjikaning Arena Sports Ki (MASK) in Rama and the Oro Township Community Arena.
