A GO train sits at the Allandale Waterfront station in Barrie.

Trains won't be chugging along GO Transit's Barrie line this coming weekend.

Metrolinx, a provincial government agency which operates the trains, says rail service along the line will be temporarily suspended from around 9 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 3 until the end of service on Sunday, Nov. 5.

The agency says this is required for track maintenance along the rail corridor to "ensure safe and reliable operation of our train service."

The work includes platform improvements at the Maple GO station and switch upgrades near the Aurora GO station as part of ongoing expansion.

GO shuttle buses will be replacing train service for people travelling between Allandale Waterfront GO and Union Station.

Downsview Park GO will not be served by any GO bus replacements, so travellers are encouraged to use the TTC during this time.

Metrolinx says regular service will resume Monday, Nov. 6.

"Buses do not have the same capacity as trains and shuttle buses may experience longer-than-normal travel times," Metrolinx said in its notice.

Additional information on service adjustments is available here.
