The Orillia Mariposa Grandmothers to Grandmothers are hard at work in their own 'grandmotherly' way raising funds for the Stephen Lewis Foundation’s Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign.

The Orillia Mariposa Grandmothers to Grandmothers Annual Cookie Walk is coming up on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 10 a.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion in Orillia.

This year the Grandmothers and friends/family have baked over 900 dozen traditional and non-traditional Christmas cookies and many local bakeries have also donated their specialties.

One of over 240 groups from cities and towns across Canada, this local group holds several fundraisers each year to help African grandmothers who are raising their grandchildren that have been orphaned by the AIDS pandemic. Some grandmothers are single-handedly raising 10 to 15 of their grandchildren.
