NEWS RELEASE
ORILLIA GRANDMOTHERS
*************************
The Orillia Grandmothers to Grandmothers are offering “High Tea in a Box” on Saturday, May 11. Available for pre-order until May 5, these boxes are a perfect way to celebrate Mother’s Day.

Each box will contain a variety of savoury sandwiches, sweets, scone, jam, and Devon cream as well as a china cup and saucer and cloth napkin.

The beginning of Afternoon Tea is attributed to Anna, the Duchess of Bedford in the 1830s. The Duchess found the span of time between midday lunch and evening dinner too long, and she began taking a pot of tea and sandwiches to her room mid-afternoon. From that humble beginning it became a social event.

“High” Tea originally referred to the more substantial tea taken by the working class who came home around 5:30 after working a 10-hour shift. Rather than at a coffee table, this tea was eaten at the dinner table and included meat as well as sweets and, of course, a big pot of tea!

The Orillia Grandmothers to Grandmothers High Tea in a Box is perfect to share with your daughter, mothers or grandmother, a special friend, or a shut-in on Mother's Day weekend.

All proceeds will go to the Stephen Lewis Foundation in support of African grandmothers who are raising their orphaned grandchildren.

Available for pre-order and pick up on Saturday, May 11 between 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. at St. Paul's Church, 62 Peter St., Orillia.

Cost is $25 per box.

To order, email Darlene at [email protected] or phone 705-326-2219.
