On Friday evening, Couchiching Jubilee House (CJH) held its Winter Open House at its building at 79 Colborne St. E. that brought the community together, celebrated accomplishments and working together to address the affordable housing crisis.

At the event, local MPP Jill Dunlop formally congratulated the team at Couchiching Jubilee House on the work that’s been done to help keep families housed since receiving a $46,800 Resilient Communities Fund grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) earlier this year.

“This investment by the Ontario Trillium Foundation has assisted the Couchiching Jubilee House with rebuilding and recovering from the impacts of COVID-19. The funding has allowed them to continue delivering important services and provide a place of belonging and compassion for women and children in our community.”

The Ontario Trillium Foundation’s contribution of $46,800 has enabled CJH to continue with its mission and meet the demand for services by updating its technology, connecting women in the community with technology, supporting its psychotherapy clinic as well as the good food box program, and hiring program facilitators.

“CJH is committed to community development throughout Orillia and the area to serve our most vulnerable,” said Bre LeFeuvre, executive director of Couchiching Jubilee House. “The creation of a supportive community is what allows us to fully embrace those in our programs and provide opportunities for life-changing connections and collaboration. OTF is another example of what organizations can do when supported by a collaborative approach through sustainable efforts. These funds help to further our mission while keeping those that we serve in the centre."

The Resilient Communities Fund grant is helping CJH adapt to challenging times and meet the growing demand for services. Couchiching Jubilee House continues to see an acute demand for housing, as more and more families are falling into homelessness and housing precarity. Transitional housing and outreach support help women and children maintain affordable and hopeful housing. As a transitional housing provider, CJH knows the solution to the housing crisis is through the funding of affordable housing developments and increasing subsidized rent geared to income, supportive and transitional housing units. When we can provide targeted housing measures along with high-quality support, we can collectively change lives and build resilient communities.

The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF), an agency of the Government of Ontario, and one of Canada’s leading granting foundations, celebrates 40 years of grant-making in Ontario and making a lasting impact in communities. Last year, OTF invested nearly $209M into 2,042 community projects and partnerships, which included funding for the Government of Ontario’s Community Building Fund. Visit otf.ca to learn more.
