In the fall of 2021, the Orillia Rowing Club learned that it had received a $12,300 Community Building Fund operating grant from the Government of Ontario and the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

Since then, the club has put the grant to work, so that rowers will now have more access to coaching and programs this coming season.

“This investment by the Ontario Trillium Foundation will assist the Orillia Rowing Club to rebuild and recover from the impacts of COVID-19 through supporting with operating expenses,” said Jill Dunlop, MPP Simcoe North. “The benefits will help support staff in their continuation to reopen safely and build on their membership in 2022 and for many years to come.”

In addition to the hiring of a coach for the season, the grant has been used to purchase PPE, cleaning supplies and help with other key operational expenses. This assistance really helps the Orillia Rowing Club get back on track after two seasons of restricted programming and membership due to COVID-19.

"The impact of this Ontario Trillium Foundation grant cannot be underestimated,” said Glorilyn Cabugao, President of the Orillia Rowing Club. “This grant will help us attract more rowers, both returning and new and provide much needed coaching for all rowers."

The Orillia Rowing Club aims to share the joy of rowing with teens and adults in the local community in a safe and fun environment. The club promotes recreational and competitive rowing as a healthy, life-long activity, fostering sporting excellence and camaraderie while continuing the century-old tradition of rowing in Orillia.
