As Green Haven Shelter for Women continues to grow in our work supporting women and children transitioning from abuse to independence, we are very excited to announce that Norma Alford will be joining our team as Executive Director.

As Executive Director, Norma will help forge a new strategic plan for the organization while strengthening and building our strategic partnerships to allow the organization to grow to best respond to the needs of women and children in Orillia and Area.

Norma is a passionate advocate for social change with over a decade of experience in nonprofit programming, management, training, and social work. Norma specializes in team building and strategic planning to increase capacity and achieve excellence.

Her work has engaged individuals across the age and abilities spectrum in multiple provinces. Norma holds a MA from Memorial University, a HBSW from Lakehead University, and undergraduate degrees from York University.

Norma has a special interest in mental health, community capacity, social justice, and cultural history. She is a mom and wife, an avid reader, and a self-confessed foodie.

The organization is excited to welcome Norma back home to Orillia. She comes with a great number of years of experience working in women’s and children’s social services.

Green Haven Shelter for Women would like to thank Ligaya Byrch of Byrch & Associates for supporting the organization as we make this transition.

“During her time with GHWS, Byrch was able to stabilize the organization, strengthen operations through team building, and successfully secure a number of grants,” says Board Chair, Cheryl Harrison.

“We look forward to growing the organization and building strategic partnerships under the leadership of Ms. Alford,” says Interim Executive Director, Ligaya Byrch.

Interesting in donating? Your gift helps abused women and children receive counselling, crisis intervention, and safe refuge while enabling them to make the difficult transition from abuse to independence.

To make up the cost of daily shelter and support for each woman and child, we must rely on a generous community for the 20 per cent shortfall beyond our government funding sources. Visit https://greenhavenshelter.com/donate/ to donate.
