Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit reports death related to COVID-19

Medical Officer of Health for the unit says this highlights that there is now community transmission of COVID-19 in the area

The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit reports the death of an individual related to COVID-19, at Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay, Ontario.

According to the health unit, the individual, a man in his 80s, was admitted to hospital after presenting with a high fever and influenza-like illness.

On March 21, it was confirmed that the man tested positive for COVID-19. He passed away Sunday afternoon with pneumonia and COVID-19 listed as the cause of death.

He had no travel history or contact with anyone confirmed to have COVID-19. 

Dr. Lynn Noseworthy, Medical Officer of Health for the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit stated, “Unfortunately, this man’s tragic passing highlights that we now have community transmission of COVID-19 in our area.”
