Winds fan flames as dozens of firefighters battle blaze near Shanty Bay (5 photos)

'On arrival, we had heavy black smoke with the winds pushing the fire across the road,' said fire official

A blaze at an Oro-Medonte Township home Sunday caused extensive damage and left one firefighter injured.

Oro-Medonte Fire and Emergency Services received the call for a fully involved structure fire at approximately 9:20 a.m., on Line 3 South near Shanty Bay.

Acting Deputy Chief Donny Adamson said it took dozens of firefighters to battle the blaze amid the strong winds.

“On arrival, we had heavy black smoke with the winds pushing the fire across the road,” said Adamson.

“We had a total of four stations involved and around 60 firefighters," he added.

The fire was contained within three hours after firefighters received the call.

Heavy damage to the garage and a vehicle parked beside it was visible, but there was no damage to the home next to the property closest to that area.

“It was all contained to the structure it started in and no damage to homes on either side,” said Adamson.

The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time and remains under investigation.

While there were no injuries to any residents of the home, one firefighter did receive a minor injury, but was deemed OK.
