BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS OF ORILLIA AND DISTRICT

Big Brothers Big Sisters Orillia Hockey Tournament is returning to Rotary Place in January for the first time since the pandemic.
Scheduled for Jan. 19 to 21, 2024, this annual charity hockey tournament draws crowds of players and spectators from all over Simcoe County, Muskoka, Grey Bruce County, the GTA, and beyond. The tournament can accommodate upwards of 30 teams over five divisions with the finals taking place on Sunday.
“Out of our four core events, this is the one that draws the largest and most supportive crowd. This year, we are hoping to raise $35,000 for our agency to help ignite the power and potential in our youth.” says Haleigh Payne, fundraising and community development co-ordinator for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orillia and District (BBBSOD).
This year’s tournament is presented by BBBSOD community partner Orillia Volkswagen, but the agency is still looking for more sponsors.
Also taking place over the duration of the tournament will be a silent auction, 50/50 draw, and food and drink sales, with all proceeds going directly to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orillia and District to support the no-cost mentoring programs that more than 250 local children and youth take part in annually.
Payne added: “This year marks the first BBBSOD Hockey Tournament since pre-pandemic and we have been blown away by the support so far. We have a good mix of longtime returning teams and new teams, and still have room for a handful more. Our community continues to support our agency in all that we do and we could not be more grateful.”
