Downtown Orillia is delighted to announce it has partnered with Hydro One to add six large, illuminated décor pieces in downtown Orillia for families and friends to take photos with while shopping this holiday season.

The décor pieces, two arches, trees, and deer, will complement the 80,000 twinkling lights, 50 warm light spheres, and 50 hanging baskets lining the streets of historic Downtown Orillia.

“We would like to thank Hydro One for its generous sponsorship to help with this latest element of our annual downtown holiday display,” said Michael Knight, Chair of the Downtown Orillia Management Board.

“In 2021, many of our traditional events, including the annual Children’s Candlelight Parade and tree lighting, were either cancelled or altered due to COVID-19 safety restrictions.Once again, the Downtown Board opted to use a portion of the savings to increase our lighting and street décor. Hydro One’s contribution has allowed us to take the next step in creating a vibrant and welcoming downtown core this holiday season," said Knight.

“At Hydro One, we feel a deep responsibility to support local organizations who are working tirelessly to build safe communities,” said Jay Armitage, Vice President, Marketing & Communications, Hydro One. “We are proud to be a part of Orillia, where community members and local organizations have come together to support one another during a challenging year. We’re proud to support the Orillia Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown Orillia Management Board to energize the holidays for Orillians this season.”

The six illuminated décor pieces are on display in each block of the downtown. Families and friends are encouraged to take a picture, tag @downtownorillia with the hashtag #LightupDowntown to be entered to win downtown dollar gift certificates valid at more than 100 downtown businesses.

Thanks to our other sponsors – Town’s Jewellers, Orillia Power Generation and Jack and Maddy – A Kids’ Store for their sponsorship of the décor pieces and holiday light display downtown. Without the continued sponsorship of our community and business partners the lighting and holiday events would not be possible.
