International company expands Orillia operations, adds third shift

Thermon Group Holdings 'has invested heavily into a newly launched medium-voltage element manufacturing line in the Orillia facility'

A company based in Austin, Texas, has finished upgrading and modernizing its plant in Orillia, which includes adding a third shift.

This week, Thermon Group Holdings, which deals in industrial process heating, announced the completion of its expanded manufacturing facilities in Orillia and Oakville.

“Orillia is leading the way into the future of element manufacturing. With an eye on safety, quality, productivity, new product development and higher levels of customer service, Thermon is investing in the Orillia plant,” said Angele Anson, Thermon’s global marketing manager.

Anson noted the following enhancements to the Orillia facility:

  • “Safety: With a safety-first mindset, multiple safety-focused events have led to significant layout changes to optimize plant layout, flow, new equipment purchases, and optimization of employee movement. This investment in our employees and equipment resulted in achieving Canada’s Safest Manufacturing Employer for 2023.
  • New product development: With an expanded R&D facility, Thermon has invested heavily into a newly launched medium-voltage element manufacturing line in the Orillia facility.
  • Employees: Orillia has expanded to a third shift to support the additional expansion opportunities of our customers. We have also built an extremely flexible workforce with multiple skill sets that can support all segments of our operation.”

With the industry increasingly moving toward carbon-neutral energy, “the decision to modernize and streamline manufacturing operations is an expectation of global demand for technologies and solutions that enable electrification and further decarbonization of carbon-intensive process heating systems,” said Mark Roberts, Thermon’s senior vice-president of heating systems business line and global engineering.

“Along with operational improvements, we are enhancing research and development by doubling the lab’s footprint and adding revolutionary testing capabilities. This supports our long-term goal of proactively serving customers who are embracing electrification of heating systems that help them to achieve their decarbonization goals.”

Thermon has 10 manufacturing facilities in the United States, Canada, Europe and India, employing more than 1,600 people in 15 countries. About 350 staff work at its Orillia and Oakville plants. The Orillia facility is located at 1 Hunter Valley Rd.
