A $36.4-million prize for a lottery ticket sold in Barrie last month has yet to be claimed.

“The $36.4 million Lotto 6/49 jackpot prize ticket sold in Barrie has not yet been paid out,” said Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) spokesperson Tony Bitonti.

Bitonti, who hails from Barrie, says he has been waiting with interest for the winner to come forward.

But no one has yet staked a claim to the multi-million-dollar winning ticket drawn on Jan. 12.

Some people purposely take their time to come forward, sometimes deciding to first get their affairs in order while others cash in right away, he said.

“There are a few that forget to check their tickets, so we want to remind them that tickets like Lotto 6/49 and Lotto Max have one year from the draw date to collect their prizes. Instant tickets have a longer expiry date,” Bitonti added. “Our best advice is to check their tickets as soon as possible on the OLG.ca App or at their favourite retailer.”

OLG had earlier indicated it was the fourth time in two years that a multi-million-dollar ticket had been sold in Barrie.

Bitonti said the days of people walking in unannounced with winning ticket in hand are long over. OLG is now booking in-person prize claim appointments at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto.

Those with claims between $1,000 and $49,999.90 are encouraged to submit their claims online or mail them.

Those with prizes over $50,000 are asked to call 1-800-387-0098 to discuss available prize claim options.
