A local landscape company is looking to get the community involved in educational and stewardship initiatives.

Orillia’s Parklane Landscapes is part of a Lake Simcoe shoreline greening project. It is distributing free native perennials to those who are interested in planting them.

“We’re a landscape company and the Lake Simcoe area is our geographic bubble. We’re trying to take care of the watershed,” said Parklane Landscapes sales consultant Ally Lauer.

She hopes area residents help with that effort by planting trees and shrubs.

“By being a steward of Lake Simcoe, you are impacting the future of the watershed while having some fun with family and friends,” she said.

Parklane Landscapes has also partnered with the Orillia Museum of Art and History to offer workshops for kids. They will focus on rain gardens and garden art.

Dates and locations for the workshops and distribution of trees have yet to be determined.
