Orillia residents and local history buffs are invited to join a one-hour walking tour of Orillia’s waterfront on Saturday Aug. 13.

The Orillia Museum of Art and History (OMAH) and Sustainable Orillia are partnering to present the new walking tour of historical Couchiching Beach Park. The first tour will begin at 10 a.m., with subsequent tours starting at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2 p.m.

Tours will leave from the Sustainable Orillia booth in front of the Legion, and walk to the other end of the park. Participants will explore the many ways Orillians have used and enjoyed the park, from past to present. Residents who have lived in Orillia their whole life and those new to the area will all make new discoveries, some of which may be surprising.

"Couchiching Beach Park has just so much history,” said OMAH’s Lindsay Earle. “At OMAH we're very excited to be working with Sustainable Orillia on this project, and we hope the public will enjoy learning about one of their beautiful parks. On this tour guests will explore the history of the park, both natural and built. They will also learn about some important Orillia figures, including boat builders and our city's first millionaire.”

This strolling tour through Couchiching Beach Park will be led by guides who will tell stories behind the history and art within the park. Cost is $10 per person ($7.50 for OMAH members).
