NEWS RELEASE
ORILLIA PUBLIC LIBRARY

The Orillia Public Library (OPL) has concluded their month-long donation drive for the Library Makerspace which raised close to $15,000.
Library CEO Bessie Sullivan was overwhelmed by how successful the fundraiser was.
“We cannot thank the community enough,” she says. “They really believe in what we are doing, and their incredible support means so much to us.”
When completed, the Makerspace will provide access to innovative technology and creative tools. This dedicated area of the Library will include cutting-edge technology such as a Glowforge Laser Cutter, an embroidery and sewing machine, a 3D Printer, and a Cricut vinyl cutter.
These resources will be available to all members of the community free of charge.
Also being purchased are Ozobots which are tiny robots that can move in a path and follow instructions. They are designed for children as an easy hands-on introduction to robotics and coding and are being purchased through a generous grant of $2,250 from the Kiwanis Club of Orillia.
If you missed the November donation drive, don’t worry, there are still a variety of ways you can support your Library this month
The Orillia Farmers' Market will be holding two special Christmas Markets at the Library on Dec. 15 and 22 from 2:30 to 7 p.m. and the Library will have a table featuring special OPL branded merchandise including onesies, youth t-shirts, ornaments, toques, and stocking stuffers.
Another great gift idea this holiday season is donating to the Library in the name of a loved one. You will be issued a certificate of donation in their name which you can wrap and place under the tree. Donations can be made in person, by mail or through the Library website: https://bit.ly/OPLdonate
