Local band leaves Leacock Lodge residents dancing in the aisles

Orillia's Rick Stephenson and the Orillia Concert Band performed hits made famous by Frank Sinatra to cap 'magical weekend' of performances

Local seniors at Orillia's Leacock Retirement Lodge were transported back in time Monday night.

Some were dancing in the aisles and many were singing along as Orillia's Rick Stephenson and the Orillia Concert Band performed hits made famous by Frank Sinatra.

The local band and Stephenson presented two "incredible, back-to-back performances" at St. Paul's Centre over the weekend. The show was a hit with the large audience.

But some people aren't able to travel to concert venues. So conductor Randy Hoover brought the Orillia Concert Band, and guest "star" Stephenson and brought their 'Frank Sinatra Comes Home to Orillia' show to the Forest Avenue retirement residence.

"The smiles on the residents' faces as the band and Rick performed made playing the third day in a row worth every second," said a band official.

Earlier Monday, Stephenson played a solo gig at the Atrium Retirement Residence.

"What a great way to end a magical weekend," said the concert band official.

The band’s next concert is part of the Sunday evening concert in the park series hosted by the City of Orillia. The Orillia Concert Band is scheduled to play on Sunday, June 23 at 6:30 p.m. You are encouraged to bring your lawn chair and enjoy a great outdoor concert at the Rotary Aqua Theatre, on the waterfront in downtown Orillia.
