The John Howard Society of Simcoe and Muskoka has announced an ongoing bottle drive to help address the root causes of homelessness in Simcoe County, a news release states.

The effort invites community members to donate their alcohol container deposits, with proceeds going directly towards various in reach/outreach programs. One of the many projects that the proceeds will go toward is getting more local supportive transitional housing for individuals who are reintegrating.

“Homelessness is a complex issue that requires a collective effort to address. By participating in this bottle drive, you’re showing that you care and are willing to make a difference,” said John Howard Society of Simcoe and Muskoka executive director Hayley Murdoch-Fyke.

The ongoing bottle drive embodies the spirit of compassion and unity. It’s an opportunity for individuals, businesses, and organizations to come together and create positive change for our homeless neighbours. Homelessness affects everyone, and by contributing to this campaign, you have become part of the solution, the release said.

“This is a win-win solution. We can take those annoying deposit containers off your hands and make a difference in our community with the proceeds,” said John Howard Society of Simcoe and Muskoka community and systems navigator Chris Williams.
