Local hikers enjoy trek through Copeland Forest (4 photos)

Members of the Orillia and Barrie arms of the Ganaraska Hiking Club enjoyed traipsing through the woods before the snow arrived

Before the snow arrived on Sunday morning, local hikers noted the woods had a fall feel.

Members from both the Barrie and Orillia chapters of the Ganaraska Hiking Club hiked to the Copeland Forest on Thursday.  The hike was planned as a snowshoe, but, at the time, there was no snow, so it was a regular hike.

The group encountered a gorgeous Turkey Tail fungus, and some impressive woodpecker excavations.

The recent near zero temperatures are just fine for hiking; all you need is the right clothes. At this time of year, it's also wise, experts warn, to wear safety colours as it is hunting season.
