Local hikers revel in fall colours at Algonquin (5 photos)

Hikers from four different area clubs enjoyed scenery and vistas revealed during ups and downs of four ridges along 10.5-kilometre trek

Earlier this week, the Orillia chapter of the Ganaraska Hiking Club led a hike to the Centennial Ridges Trail in Algonquin Park. Even the drive to the trailhead was spectacular, with the autumn colours becoming more brilliant with every kilometre.

Eleven hikers from four clubs joined forces to hike the trail which is 10.5 km long, but which took more than five hours to complete, partly because the trail ascends and descends four ridges, each offering amazing views of the forest of Algonquin, which in turn would bring out the cameras.

Hikers felt fortunate for the weather which was cool, but sunny, and there were very few fallen leaves.

The Ganaraska Hiking Club offers several weekly hikes, and welcomes new hikers. Visit www.ganaraska-hiking-trail.org for further information.
