At‌ ‌the‌ ‌age‌ ‌of‌ ‌82,‌ ‌Dave‌ ‌Beckett‌ ‌continues‌ ‌to‌ ‌capture‌ ‌Huronia‌ ‌in‌ ‌his‌ ‌paintings‌ ‌at‌ ‌his‌ ‌studio and gallery‌ ‌in‌ ‌the‌ ‌village‌ ‌of‌ ‌Marchmont‌ ‌west‌ ‌of‌ ‌Orillia.‌ ‌ ‌

He‌ ‌returned‌ ‌to‌ ‌his‌ ‌hometown‌ ‌42‌ ‌years‌ ‌ago‌ ‌after‌ ‌a‌ ‌successful‌ ‌career‌ ‌in‌ ‌newspaper‌ ‌advertising/‌marketing,‌ ‌fulfilling‌ ‌a‌ ‌lifelong‌ ‌dream‌ ‌of‌ ‌a‌ ‌career‌ ‌as‌ ‌a‌ ‌professional‌ ‌artist.‌ ‌He‌ ‌has‌ ‌never‌ ‌looked‌ ‌back.‌ ‌

He‌ ‌was‌ ‌asked‌ ‌how‌ ‌many‌ ‌paintings‌ ‌he‌ ‌had‌ ‌completed‌ ‌over‌ ‌the‌ ‌years‌ ‌and‌ ‌his‌ ‌estimates‌ ‌are‌ ‌more‌ ‌than‌ ‌4,000‌ ‌not‌ ‌including‌ ‌30‌ ‌limited‌ ‌print‌ ‌editions.‌ ‌ ‌

Many‌ ‌of‌ ‌these‌ ‌painting's‌ ‌subjects‌ ‌in‌ ‌oil‌ ‌and‌ ‌pastel,‌ ‌of‌ ‌local‌ ‌landscapes‌ ‌and‌ ‌heritage‌ ‌buildings‌, form‌ ‌part‌ ‌of‌ ‌private,‌ ‌charitable,‌ ‌government‌ ‌and‌ ‌corporate‌ ‌collections‌ ‌at‌ ‌home‌ ‌and‌ ‌abroad.‌ ‌ ‌

Though‌ ‌COVID‌ ‌has‌ ‌impacted‌ ‌the‌ ‌usual‌ ‌traffic‌ ‌to‌ ‌his‌ ‌studio‌ ‌gallery,‌ ‌it‌ ‌has‌ ‌not‌ ‌slowed‌ ‌him‌ ‌down.‌ ‌Dave‌ ‌works‌ ‌daily‌ ‌gathering‌ ‌material‌ ‌and‌ ‌painting‌ ‌in‌ ‌his‌ ‌studio.‌ ‌ ‌

Teaching‌ ‌the‌ ‌art‌ ‌of‌ ‌pastel‌ ‌at‌ ‌his‌ ‌studio‌ ‌and‌ ‌conducting‌ ‌workshops‌ ‌for‌ ‌art‌ ‌groups‌ ‌has‌ ‌also‌ ‌been‌ ‌part‌ ‌of‌ ‌his‌ ‌busy‌ ‌life.‌ ‌

He‌ ‌is‌ ‌presently‌ ‌finishing‌ ‌a‌ ‌commission‌ ‌of‌ ‌a‌ ‌red‌ ‌canoe‌ ‌in‌ ‌Georgian‌ ‌Bay.‌ ‌Red‌ ‌canoes‌ ‌are‌ ‌not‌ ‌new‌ ‌to‌ ‌his‌ ‌paintings‌ ‌and‌ ‌art‌ ‌prints.‌ ‌ ‌

"There‌ ‌is‌ ‌something‌ ‌special‌ ‌and‌ ‌I‌ ‌guess‌ ‌nostalgic‌ ‌to‌ ‌people.‌ ‌I‌ ‌spend‌ ‌a‌ ‌great‌ ‌deal‌ ‌of‌ ‌my‌ ‌time‌ ‌in‌ ‌my‌ ‌red‌ ‌canoe‌ ‌exploring‌ ‌our‌ ‌waters‌ ‌and‌ ‌Georgian‌ ‌Bay,”‌ ‌said‌ ‌Beckett.‌ ‌ ‌

His‌ ‌work‌ ‌will‌ ‌also‌ ‌be‌ ‌featured‌ ‌with‌ ‌various‌ ‌area‌ ‌studios‌ ‌during‌ ‌the‌ ‌annual‌ ‌Studio‌ ‌Tour‌, ‌Thanksgiving‌ ‌weekend‌ ‌Oct.‌ ‌2-4,‌ ‌2021.‌ ‌ ‌

His‌ ‌gallery‌ ‌and‌ ‌studio‌ ‌are‌ ‌open‌ ‌daily‌ ‌by‌ ‌appointment‌ ‌and‌ ‌weekends‌ ‌from‌ ‌10‌ ‌a.m.‌ ‌to‌ ‌5‌ ‌p.m.‌ ‌ ‌

More‌ ‌than‌ ‌50‌ ‌original‌ ‌paintings‌ ‌can‌ ‌be‌ ‌seen‌ ‌on‌ ‌his‌ ‌website‌ ‌‌www.davebeckettartcanada.com‌ ‌ ‌
