Matt Miller has written and performed a song about OrilliaMatters.

A local musician has created a song about OrilliaMatters.

Matt Miller, 37, has been making music since he was 11 years old. He has recorded and self-released dozens of albums online and on CD-R.

“I’ve played shows with some talented folks,” he said. “Liz from Land of Talk, Zeus, Jason Collett, Dani Nash, The Golden Dogs, and Bahamas before he was called that.”

Miller has performed under the aliases William Delray, Rex Boyfriend, Church of the Hearts on Fire, and Lester Factory Neilson. He’s known for his songs, The Sexy Moving Parts, Bad Yoga and The 1993 World Series.

The Patrick Fogarty Catholic Secondary School graduate, who works at Couchiching Golf Club as a cook, says he wrote the OrilliaMatters Song as a tribute to his favourite news site.

“It’s a loving thank you to the site for being my local news source,” he said. “I’m nosy. I want to know what’s going on and how people are doing.”

The song can be found on the Orillia subreddit here.

“I’ve had a couple of people tell me they liked the song,” Miller said. “One friend mentioned the Orillia subreddit after mentioning the song, and I put the two together.”

While Miller’s life passion has been music, he says he has no expectations or career dreams in the industry.

“The business part of the industry is famously unfair and ruthless,” he said. “It’s a wholesome hobby for me.”

His enjoyment of music comes from writing and performing songs and then sharing them with the public if he feels they are worth doing so.

Grace Schofield, co-owner of Pocket Skate and Vintage, has asked Miller to perform at her shop during the Starry Night Studio and Gallery Tour on Saturday evening.

“If you’re around, maybe you’ll hear me singing my short, weird songs surrounded by bright, colourful clothing and shiny, new skateboard parts,” he said.

Miller’s music can be found on Apple Music and Bandcamp.
