Oro-Medonte resident Heather Breckles is the February Soldiers’ 50/50 grand prize winner, taking home $28,952.

“Oh, my gosh. Thank you,” Breckles gasped as she took in the good news.

Breckles and her husband, David, have supported Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital (OSMH) for over 20 years.

“Our hospital is our hospital,” Breckles emphasized, noting that four generations of her family have been born at OSMH. “We need to support (OSMH) as much as we can.”

As an active Kiwanis Club of Orillia member, Breckles gave her full support of the club’s 2021 donation of $40,000 to the OSMH obstetrics department. The birth of her grandchild inspired her to champion the purchase of a new Panda Bedded warmer.

“We need to support our health,” she said. “We need to support our local hospitals.”

Breckles plans to take her immediate family out for a celebratory dinner, pay off some larger bills, and continue to give back to the community through her involvement with multiple local charities. She will also keep purchasing her monthly Soldiers’ 50/50 tickets to support OSMH.

“I truly believe the nurses, doctors, and staff (at OSMH) are always doing the best they can for their patients.”

The Soldiers’ 50/50 March raffle is underway, and tickets are available to purchase through soldiers5050.ca. There will be two early-bird prizes of $1,000, drawn on March 7 and March 21 respectively. The grand prize draw deadline will be Wednesday, March 27 at 11:59 p.m. and ticket bundles start at just $10.

Soldiers’ 50/50 raffle is managed by the Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital Foundation and works to generate funding for areas of emerging need within Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital.
