Local woman went from 400 pounds to offering her own fitness classes

COVID-19 won't stop Transformation Station from keeping clients healthy

The Transformation Station was close to opening its doors and getting many active and fit. But then the current health crisis stopped all that momentum.

Owner/trainer Christina Romita said she was a bit frustrated, but is making sure things are in place for the day she can open her building to the public.

“I wanted to be ready to go for May 1, but we’re now on hold for the actual building due to COVID-19,” said Romita. “I’m planning a big grand opening when it is safe to do so, but we have ways to keep people active and connected for now.”

The Transformation Station, located at 15 Cedar Pointe Dr., in Units 1 and 2, is offering free Zoom classes for now. In the meantime, their first class had 14 people join.

“About nine years ago, I ran some classes and it was a big hit. I was young and a bit inexperienced and didn’t know how to build on it at the time,” Romita said. “I learned some more tricks of the trade and realized one thing that is missing in health and fitness is the accountability aspect.”

Romita said her business is about keeping clients going through activity and motivation while remaining fun. She also provides a connection through understanding to those who feel they are overweight and unable to change.

“When I was 15 years old, I was over 400 pounds,” said Romita. “I remember meeting Richard Simmons and trying his programs and then others that came out. I lost about 180 pounds and worked hard to maintain a healthy level of fitness.”

When the Transformation Station does open, it will provide more than just gym space. There is a clothing swap room, lounge room, workshop area and a vision room.

“I’m really excited about the vision room and what that offers,” said Romita. “It will have vision boards so you can get your thoughts down and allow you to take a step back and see your goals. Just having a gym and equipment is not enough, you need focus, goals and accountability.”

The Transformation Station offers classes in metcon fitness (metabolic conditioning), hip-hop classes, and more.
