A brief lockdown at an Orillia high school was a false alarm, police say.
On Monday, shortly before 1 p.m., Orillia OPP officers responded to Twin Lakes Secondary School "regarding a lockdown initiation announcement," notes a media release from the OPP.
Twin Lakes staff called police but the "initial information was that it could be a malfunction of the system."
Despite that, officers arrived at the school to ensure there was no threat to students or staff. The lockdown was lifted soon after.
During a lockdown, staff and students must remain inside their classrooms with the doors closed and locked. All exterior school doors and windows will also be locked.
Students who are outside the building or their classroom will be directed to the closest safe area of the building during a lockdown.
