After a tough year for employment in our region with many people losing work or working reduced hours, Agilec has its doors open to welcome community members into the centre and to act as a liaison between job seekers, employers, and other community supports.

Agilec is a free service to anyone who is unemployed or underemployed (less than 20 hours a week) and over the age of 15.

Staff will provide a person-centered approach to support individuals in meeting their employment goals. Services are being offered in person or virtually at this time and extra safety measures have been put in place to keep candidates and staff safe.

“We have people accessing our services who have worked in the same industry for 25 years and because of COVID they have been laid off and are looking for a change,” said Marlow Devine, an Employment Coach with Agilec.

“We can support people with creating or updating a resume into a format that will best represent them in their job search. We can look at the local labour market trends in our area, prepare people for interviews, and connect people with other services in our community that they may benefit from," Devine added.

Agilec also has Employer Liaisons who connect with local employers to find out more about their hiring needs and provide a job matching program where they can connect individuals in our service directly to employers.

“There are many ways we can help small, medium, and large businesses with their hiring process,"said Crystal Edwards, an Employer Liaison in the Orillia office.

"Some of our services include resume screening, job matching, job posting, job fairs and interviews, and training incentives and job grants,” said Edwards.

“We are also advocating the importance of hiring people with developmental disabilities and tapping into that labour market," Devine explained. "We have many people in our community who identify as having developmental disabilities who are looking for meaningful long-term employment.

"We want to work with job seekers and employers to create inclusive workplaces that are a fair representation of the community they are serving, and create sustainable, mutually beneficial, employment opportunities,” said Devine.

“If there are employers in the community who would like to talk more about this and see what supports could be provided then we strongly encourage them to reach out to start this conversation”.

Agilec is located inside City Hall at 50 Andrew St. S, Suite 102.

If you are an employer or job seeker looking to speak with someone you can call to speak with a staff member at 705-325-9299. If you don’t have access to a phone, or are more comfortable walking in, you can do that as well; the centre is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily.
