Male arrested in Coldwater Road weapons call (3 photos)

Witness says the incident began around 4 a.m. and heard police 'negotiating with (the suspect) over a speaker' during the hours-long incident

Orillia OPP officers and members of its tactics and rescue unit (TRU) responded to a weapons call early this morning at an apartment house located at the corner of Coldwater Road West and Albert Street North.

The incident prompted officers to shut down several streets in the area around Victoria Park.

Orillia OPP Acting Sgt. Brett Boniface told OrilliaMatters that a male was arrested at about 9:30 a.m. As a result, officers left the area and the streets were reopened. He was not able to provide further details.

A resident who lives in the area, who wishes to remain anonymous, says the incident started around 4 a.m. He says he witnessed police take a male out of a home and into a police vehicle around 9:25 a.m.

“They were negotiating with him over a speaker,” he said. “I could hear it from the top of the street.”
