This is a whacky or quacky tale about an industrious mother duck.
She somehow found her way into a planter box at a north-end residence. Like many who flock to the north ward, she loved it - and decided to stay.
After making her nest in the comfy spot, she promptly laid her eggs and was fiercely protective of them as she patiently waited for her brood to breathe their first.
Eventually, the ducklings broke free from their shelled abode and the seven downy ducklings were born. Mama Duck then adopted two other broods and is currently raising about 30 wee ducklings! She is a busy and industrious mother.
Today, she took her entire brood through Couchiching Beach Park for a refreshing swim in Lake Couchiching. It was not their first swim. Several times, the homeowner where the ducks found refuge has played with her new housemates while kayaking close to shore.
It's been an eventful first week of life for Orillia's newest feathered residents!
