Marble Slab Creamery mixing things up with new Orillia location (5 photos)

Not your average ice cream shop, Marble slab is an 'experience ... you'll love,' says manager of new Orillia location

Orillia’s newest ice cream joint has been open for a week and it’s already becoming a hit.

Marble Slab Creamery, in the plaza at 3220 Monarch Dr., offers more than a simple cone or shake. There are 32 flavours of ice cream — made fresh on location — on the menu and more than 20 toppings, or “mixings.”

Customers pay for the ice cream by weight, and they’re free to add as many mixings as they want at no additional cost. Staff combine them on a marble slab to ensure the mixings are in every bite.

Marble Slab also offers five premium cones as well as waffle bowls.

That wide selection of options has been appealing to customers.

“We didn’t do any advertisement, but we still got a good response from people,” said manager Jaypal Chauhan.

The vibrant atmosphere has also been a draw. The bright pink and white colours scream ice cream.

“For ice cream, it’s the best colour,” Chauhan said.

And, for a business like Marble Slab, west Orillia is an ideal spot.

“There’s no ice cream store in this area, so this is the best place for this business,” he said.

Many people come to town from other areas to shop and to enjoy Orillia’s expanding food scene, he added.

“Right now, Orillia is growing. The food business is good here.”

Chauhan is confident the expansive menu will keep people coming back to try something new. Marble Slab also sells ice cream cakes, milkshakes, smoothies, popcorn, frozen yogurt, and two vegan ice cream flavours.

“If you’ve never been to Marble Slab, please come for the experience. You’ll love it,” Chauhan said.

Marble Slab currently employs 14 people, plus management. It is open seven days a week, including holidays, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
