Hot on the heels of the tremendous successes of Chicago and All My Sons, Mariposa Arts Theatre is getting ready to present Rope’s End on the Orillia Opera House stage. Written by acclaimed playwright Douglas Bowie, the performances will run from Thursday to Sunday April 5-15.

We all remember our first crush; that heady, captivating time when we fell headfirst into young love. We also remember our first heartbreak.

Rope’s End is a bittersweet story about unrequited love and second chances, with a touch of Cyrano de Bergerac tossed in. Toby Boone is a middle-aged, has-been movie critic who is reflecting on all the bad turns his life has taken and questions his very existence.

Despite his fears, he gets up the courage to reconnect with his childhood crush, Marissa, a girl he met at summer camp when they were thirteen.

But it’s been 31 years since they’ve seen or spoken to one another. What if she doesn’t remember him? Or even worse, what if she does?

At times comical and witty, while at other times heartbreaking, Rope’s End leads us through the twists and turns of life and romance and ends up in a memorable place.

Taking on the challenging roles are Ian Munday and Marnie Hayes. Theatre audiences will recognize Ian from his many MAT appearances including Spamalot and A Few Good Men to name a few. Rope’s End marks the Orillia stage debut for Marnie.

The play is directed by Christine Killing who also at the helm for the Huronia Players production of the same play a few years ago.

Don’t miss out on this show! The previous two MAT productions had mostly sold-out performances.

Performances take place at the Orillia Opera House Studio Theatre and run Thursday to Saturday April 5-7 at 7:30 p.m. and April 12-14 at 7:30 p.m., Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. on April 8 and 15.

Tickets are $25, groups of 10 or more get special rate of $20 per ticket, and are available through the Orillia Opera House, 705-326-8011, or purchase online at orilliaoperahouse.ca.
