NEWS RELEASE
MARIPOSA ARTS THEATRE
***********************************
After the success of our incredible 2023/2024 season The Mariposa Arts Theatre Foundation, Orillia’s Community Theatre, is thrilled to announce our upcoming 2024/2025 season staged at the Orillia Opera House.

This season MAT is exploring the complex motivations, morality and nature of villainy. Who are the villains in our families, culture and memories? Do they create us? Motivate us?

Perhaps they are us.

This season we are bringing a classic musical tale, an exciting modern play and a timeless drama to Orillia audiences.

Presenting:

Gypsy: A Musical Fable

Nov. 7 - 17, 2024 Directed by Josh Halbot Book: Arthur Laurents | Lyrics: Stephen Sondheim | Music: Jule Styne

Often referred to as the greatest American musical, Gypsy follows the dreams of supreme stage mother, Rose, as she tours her growing children through the vaudeville circuit of the 1920’s and the ever evolving demands and desires of show business.

The Thanksgiving Play

Feb. 6 - 16, 2025 Written By Larissa FastHorse

In this sharp, satirical, comedy, the first play produced on Broadway written by a Native American woman, four (very) well-intentioned theatre people walk into an elementary school. The work at hand: creating a First Thanksgiving pageant to celebrate Native American Heritage Month that won’t ruffle any feathers.

A Streetcar Named Desire

April 3 - 13, 2025 Written by Tennessee Williams

This classic drama about the realities facing women in family and societal structures in the late 1940’s comes alive when older sister Blanche, forced to leave their grand ancestral home, comes to stay with her sister, Stella, and Stella’s working-class husband Stanley.
