Mayor explains city's new COVID-19 emergency measures bylaw

City now has a COVID-19 hotline that people can call if they have concerns about citizens not adhering to rules related to curbing spread of virus

Today, as we reported earlier, the City of Orillia, at a special virtual meeting of council, approved a new emergency measures bylaw.

The bylaw, essentially, empowers city bylaw enforcement officers to enforce rules around physical distancing and other prohibitions enacted by the city.

Adhering to these rules is "everyone's responsibility and is absolutely critical," says the mayor, who notes he hopes no fines have to be levied.

The city has a new COVID-19 enforcement hotline that citizens can call from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m. daily. That number is 705-325-2313.
