On Wednesday, May 11, McHappy Day, Orillia McDonald’s restaurants raised $13,424 to support the community’s sick babies and children.

Fifty percent of the funds raised will go to Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital, which partnered with McDonald’s, to aid with the purchase of syringe pumps and vital signs monitors at Soldiers’ Paediatric Unit.  The remaining fifty percent of funds will support Ronald McDonald House Toronto.

Local owner/operators Jason and Jennifer O’Neill and McDonald’s staff welcomed members of the Soldiers’ team into their restaurants to share in the excitement of the 28th annual McHappy Day. A portion of proceeds from all menu items sold that day directly impacted the lives of families within the Soldiers’ community.

Since 1977, McDonald’s Canada, its franchisees, and guests have raised nearly $66 million for Ronald McDonald House and children’s charities across Canada. Since 1981, Ronald McDonald House Toronto has been a place to call home for families with seriously ill children undergoing treatment. The house keeps families together and close to the care they need.

Syringe pumps remove the potential for human error when administering what is often lifesaving medication to neonates and small children at Soldiers’. Small but mighty, this vital piece of equipment can intervene in a life or death situation as it calculates the precise dosage needed to endure the safety of our smallest soldiers.

To date, McHappy Day has raised nearly $80,000 for Soldiers’ Pediatric Unit. Soldiers’ is proud to be part of one of the more than 3,400 communities across Canada touched by the overwhelming generosity of McDonald’s on McHappy Day. A total of $5.7 million was raised across Canada this McHappy Day.
