She was due to arrive on Christmas Day but Morgan Jade Parsons decided Jan. 1 would be a better birthday, and in the process became Orillia’s first baby of the New Year born at Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital (OSMH).

The first child of Justine Gardner and Matt Parsons of Orillia, Morgan arrived at 6:54 a.m. weighing in at 7 pounds, 15 ounces.

Mother and daughter are resting comfortably.

Approximately 1,000 babies are born at OSMH each year.

Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital (OSMH) is located in Orillia, Ontario (just 114 kilometres north of Toronto) and serves more than 440,000 residents in North Simcoe Muskoka.
