MARIPOSA FOLK FESTIVAL

Several artists have been added to this year’s star-studded Mariposa Folk Festival lineup.

The Fitzgerald Sisters are renowned for their high-energy fiddling, jaw-dropping step dancing and the winning way they connect with audiences of all ages. These siblings from just outside the Ottawa Valley are animated and generous performers with a polished, action-packed show. And for good measure, they will even step-dance and fiddle at the same time.

Fingerstyle guitarist Gareth Pearson has earned the nickname “The Welsh Tornado,” and you’ll see why when you witness some of his lightning-fast fingerwork on the acoustic guitar. Pearson’s distinctive style comes to the fore in his exciting instrumental arrangements of songs by Michael Jackson, Radiohead and Bruno Mars and in his own beautiful and often intricate original compositions.

Since he was old enough to pick up a pick, Wendell Ferguson had lived and breathed the guitar. And it has paid off. The country singer-songwriter with the off-beat sense of humour has gained a legion of fans, a hatful of awards and has been named the Canadian Country Music Awards guitar player of the year. Seven times.

When Ariko is on stage, it’s party time. The three Lefaive sisters from Tiny, Ontario, offer a dynamic repertoire of traditional French-Canadian songs, stepdance, zydeco and jazz. Their vocal harmonies, dynamic fiddle riffs and driving rhythms (provided by their parents) make it impossible – and perhaps illegal -- not to tap your feet.

They will be joined by some world-renowned artists that include Walk Off The Earth, Allan Doyle, Nick Lowe and Los Straitjackets, Valdy, Bahamas and many others.

Mariposa Folk Festival takes place July 6, 7, and 8 2018, in beautiful Tudhope Park in Orillia, on the shores of scenic Lake Couchiching. The three-day event features the best folk-roots music on the North American scene as well as story, dance and craft on more than ten stages.
