A new space in downtown Orillia is set to welcome new mental health practitioners to the area.

Cocoon Orillia is the vision of local psychotherapist Candy Potter, who, alongside co-founder Steve Caston, is renovating a century home at 53 Andrew St. in Orillia to accommodate a community of mental health practitioners.

“The right physical space is such an important part of creating a warm, safe and comfortable environment for therapy,” said Potter. “Cocoon Orillia will offer a cozy atmosphere to provide support for individuals, children, family and group therapy, art therapy, massage therapy and workshops.”

As a practitioner, Potter understands the challenge of finding a suitable and accessible space to deliver her services, and as an entrepreneur understands the added challenge of finding affordable lease space. Potter has built a lease model designed to align with the needs of emerging professionals.

“My vision was to create a community of mental health and other health and wellness practitioners,” said Potter. “Our friendly rental structure allows new professionals the flexibility and opportunity to book blocks of time within a fully furnished space so they can focus their resources on what matters, their clients.”

While the building is currently under renovation, a tenant has already signed on to join the space. Zoe Fysikoudi of Expressive Minds is a registered psychotherapist who recently moved from her home in southern Ontario to Orillia. Specializing in supporting children and families, Fysikoudi chose Orillia because she said Orillia feels like coming home.

“I was really drawn to Candy’s vision of Cocoon Orillia - a holistic, inclusive and safe space where professionals can work together to support families,” Fysikoudi said. “Among the many clients I serve, I support children who have been through trauma and parents who are seeking tools to support behavioural issues. This will be a safe space where I can meet people where they’re at emotionally.”

A grand opening to allow the community to explore the home of Cocoon Orillia is tentatively scheduled for February 2023. Cocoon Orillia is currently accepting new tenants. Information, photos and rates can be found here.
