If you live near Victoria, Homewood, Clayt French, Walter Henry, High Street, or another park in Orillia, you have likely been pleasantly surprised the past two summers.

The Orilllia & District Arts Council (ODAC), in partnership with the City of Orillia, arranged a variety of artistic entertainment and community activities in several of the local open spaces around the city. While Orillia has plenty of events at Tudhope and Couchiching parks, the Summer Parks effort specifically focused on individual neighbourhoods.

The programming was designed to bring activity for all ages that was easily accessed from home. Past events have included music by Pat Gowan, Cheryl Hill, Ron Douglas, and Mike Dobranski, art by Orillia Museum of Art and History staff, Sharing Place staff, and creative ODAC members, and dance routines for healthy living.

2024 is now being prepared. Board member Kelsey Nichols noted, “ODAC is surveying the public to inform us on how, what, where, and when to propose this year’s programming. Previously, these have been scheduled for Wednesdays between 6 and 8 p.m. throughout July and August. We definitely want to get feedback from the neighbourhoods.”

Board member Dennis Rizzo added, “There will be opportunity for additional input as we move forward, but we need you to take a few minutes to complete a survey. The link is noted below.”

ODAC is asking you or your family to complete the survey at forms.gle/XPUXUWp2z79xkuPs6 and register your feelings and thoughts about local park programming. Anyone interested in helping plan and design a program for their local park is asked to complete the information at the end of the survey.
