The collection at the Orillia Museum of Art & History (OMAH) is a treasure trove of artifacts donated by those who recognize their importance to our local history. These gems teach us a lot about our past and those individuals who played a part in it.

Orillia-born Franklin Carmichael, a founding member of the Group of Seven artists, is famous for his stunning paintings of our Canadian landscapes. Did you know that he also designed and printed the family’s Christmas cards at his printing company The Press of the Wyvern?

OMAH is fortunate to have some of these treasures in the collection, thanks to Gary Marsh, whose family were neighbours of the Carmichaels, and received the cards from Ada and Frank Carmichael from 1939 to 1944. Marsh generously donated the cards to OMAH.

OMAH History Committee member Janet Houston enjoyed delving into the processes of hand printing that Franklin Carmichael used. Click here to learn more about the Carmichael Christmas cards in the OMAH collection.
