Two organizations with a shared mission to support some of the area’s most vulnerable citizens are teaming up for a fundraiser.

Couchiching Jubilee House and Youth Haven Orillia Outreach are hosting an online auction that will run from May 31 to June 14.

“The pandemic presents challenges to fundraising efforts, so we’re expanding our reach by working together,” said Paige Jakobczak, fundraising co-ordinator with Couchiching Jubilee House, Orillia’s only long-term transitional home for women and their children. “Our programs are thriving right now and our relationships have deepened during the pandemic.”

The organization already has a close working relationship with Youth Haven Orillia Outreach, and joining forces for the fundraising auction is another way to build on that.

“Our missions are similar,” Jakobczak said. “Couchiching Jubilee House and Youth Haven focus on long-term and sustainable solutions to not only homelessness, but also precarious living and poverty.”

Proceeds from the auction will be split evenly between the two organizations.

“What a good way to raise funds for Youth Haven Orillia Outreach and also for our basement unit so we can expand our capacity at Couchiching Jubilee House,” Jakobczak said of the unit that was damaged in a flood.

She also hopes it will draw attention to local businesses during a time that has been difficult for many of them.

A variety of items will be up for grabs during the auction, including gift certificates to a spa and local restaurants, as well as car washes, mini-vacations and more.

Those interested in taking part can RSVP on the event’s Facebook page, where more details about the auction are posted.

All available items will be uploaded to that page May 31 at 4 p.m., and that’s when bidding will begin. Bidding will close June 14 at 4 p.m.
