Ontario reports 139 new COVID cases Wednesday

Public Health Ontario reported 139 new COVID cases in today's update (Aug. 4). 

The report includes 155 new recoveries and 11 deaths. Seven of the deaths reported today were from 2020 and were previously unreported.

The deaths reported today include one person between 20 and 39 years old, six people between 60 and 79 years old, and four people over 79 years old.

Since yesterday's report, 12 people have been hospitalized with COVID-19 and one person was admitted to an intensive care unit.

The August 4 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:

  • 1,690 active, lab-confirmed cases, down from 1,717 yesterday.
  • 112 COVID-positive people are currently hospitalized in Ontario.
  • There are 108 patients in intensive care units with COVID-related illness (of those, 30 no longer test positive for COVID-19).
  • 57 people are on ventilators due to COVID-related illness (of those, 19 no longer test positive for COVID-19).
  • The province reported 17,115 tests were processed yesterday, resulting in a 1.2 per cent positivity rate. 
  • There are 8,788 tests still awaiting processing, and the provincial labs have processed 16.6 million tests to date.
  • Of the new cases reported today, 19 are from Waterloo, 26 are from Toronto, 18 cases are from Peel, three are from Simcoe-Muskoka, four are from Grey-Bruce, and 15 are from York Region.
  • Today's cases include 48 individuals aged 19 and under, 54 people between 20 and 39 years old, 25 people between 40 and 59 years old, and 12 people between 60 and 79 years old. 

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 551,125 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 540,075 recoveries and 9,360 deaths.

The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 3,740.5 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.

Ontario's average weekly incidence rate is 9.2 cases per 100,000 people, which is up by 21.1 per cent from last week.

Vaccines

  • There were 60,094 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered yesterday.
  • 19,652,011 doses of vaccine have been administered.
  • In total, 9,143,402 people have been fully vaccinated.

Simcoe-Muskoka

Yesterday, the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit reported nine new COVID cases in its first update since Friday.

There are currently 40 active cases in the region. 

There are four people from Simcoe County hospitalized with COVID-19-related illnesses, which is up by two hospitalizations since Friday. 

Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 12,381 cases of COVID-19 with 12,086 of those cases recovered and 255 cases ending in death.

The health unit has confirmed 5,061 variant cases in the region so far, with 19 of those cases still active. 

Last week, the case incidence rate in Simcoe-Muskoka was 4.3 cases per 100,000 people over seven days, which is an increase of 22.9 per cent from the week of July 19 to 25.
