Public Health Ontario has reported 1,794 new cases of COVID-19 today (May 22).
Today's report includes 2,520 recoveries and 20 new deaths.
The May 22 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:
- 21,454 active, lab-confirmed cases, which is down from 22,200 reported yesterday.
- 1,207 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in Ontario, down from 1,265 reported yesterday.
- There are 706 patients in intensive care units because of COVID-19 (down from 715 yesterday) and 504 COVID patients on ventilators (down from 510 reported yesterday).
- The province reported 34,576 tests were processed yesterday resulting in a 6.0 per cent positivity rate.
- Another 18,338 tests are still under investigation and/or being processed. To date, 14.9 million tests have been completed.
- Of the new cases reported today, 416 are from Toronto, 355 cases are from Peel, and 140 are from York Region..
Vaccines
- There were 190,129 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered on May 21, which is up from 158,524 administered on May 20.
- As of 8 p.m. on May 21, the province reported 7,925,277 doses of vaccine against COVID-19 have been administered.
- In total, 519,981 people have been fully vaccinated.
Public Health Ontario has confirmed 520,774 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 490,721 recoveries and 8,599 deaths, of which 3,947 were individuals living in long-term care facilities.
