Public Health Ontario has reported 244 new COVID-19 cases in its latest report (July 6), which includes 80 cases from 2020 not previously reported.
The 80 cases from 2020 came from a data review and cleaning initiative at Toronto Public Health.
Today's update notes 319 new recoveries and nine deaths.
The deaths include one person between 20 and 39 years old, two people between 40 and 59 years old, four people between 60 and 79 years old, and two people over the age of 79.
The July 6 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:
- 1,883 active, lab-confirmed cases, down from 1,967 yesterday.
- 202 COVID-positive people are currently hospitalized in Ontario.
- There are 226 patients in intensive care units with COVID-related illness (of those, 58 no longer test positive for COVID-19).
- 161 people are on ventilators due to COVID-related illness (of those, 37 no longer test positive for COVID-19).
- The province reported 28,755 tests were processed yesterday, resulting in a 1.1 per cent positivity rate.
- There are 11,518 tests still awaiting processing, and the provincial labs have processed 16 million tests to date.
- Of the new cases reported today, 25 are from Waterloo, 112 are from Toronto (including the 80 cases from 2020), 26 cases are from Peel, two are from Simcoe-Muskoka, and 13 are from York Region.
- Today's cases include 38 individuals aged 19 and under, 75 people between 20 and 39 years old, 71 people between 40 and 59 years old, 37 people between 60 and 79 years old, and 23 people aged 80 and over.
Vaccines
- There were 215,719 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered yesterday.
- 15,921,585 doses of vaccine have been administered.
- In total, 5,883,641 people have been fully vaccinated.
Public Health Ontario has confirmed 546,217 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 535,110 recoveries and 9,224 deaths.
The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 3,674.7 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.
Ontario's average weekly incidence rate is 10.2 cases per 100,000 people, which is down by 19.7 per cent from the prior seven-day period.
Simcoe-Muskoka
Yesterday, the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit reported 11 new COVID-19 cases in its first update since Friday.
There are 63 active cases in the region.
Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 12,300 cases of COVID-19 with 11,565 of those cases recovered and 251 cases ending in death.
There are 10 people from Simcoe County hospitalized with COVID-19 related illness, which includes two new hospitalizations since Friday.
According to the health unit, 40 per cent of the region's adult population (aged 18 and over) have received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, and another 36 per cent have received one dose. The remaining 24 per cent is unvaccinated.
The weekly incidence rate in the region is 5.5 cases per 100,000, which is down by 8.3 per cent from last week.
