The weekly incidence rate in Ontario is 114.7 cases per 100,000 people from Dec. 24 to Dec. 30, which is up by 7.5 per cent compared to Dec. 18-24 when the average weekly incidence rate was 106.7 cases per 100,000 people.

On Dec. 31, the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit reported 74 new cases of COVID-19 in the region. The health unit will not be posting another update until the afternoon of Jan. 4.

The local health unit has now confirmed 3,589 cases of COVID-19 with 2,507 of those cases recovered and 66 cases ending in death. There are more than 950 active, lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the region, with the majority of those in Simcoe County.

There are at least 32 people from Simcoe County hospitalized.

Approximately half of all new infections reported by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit in December were linked to close contact with another case. About 20 per cent were reported as community-acquired, which means there is no known source of infection.
