Public Health Ontario has reported 3,424 new cases of COVID-19 today (May 6).
Today's report includes 3,997 recoveries and 26 new deaths.
Today's deaths include one person between 40 and 59 years old, 17 people between 60 and 79 years old, and eight people over 79 years old.
Since yesterday, the province has reported 192 new hospitalizations and 42 new admissions of COVID-19 patients to intensive care units.
The May 6 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:
- 34,377 active cases, down from 34,976 reported yesterday.
- 1,964 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in Ontario, down from 2,075 reported yesterday.
- There are 877 patients in intensive care units because of COVID-19 (down from 882 yesterday) and 600 COVID patients on ventilators (down from 620 reported yesterday).
- The province reported 54,118 tests were processed yesterday resulting in a 6.8 per cent positivity rate.
- Another 27,286 tests are still under investigation and/or being processed. To date, 14.3 million tests have been completed.
- Of the new cases reported today, 958 are from Toronto, 900 cases are from Peel, 291 are from York Region, and 95 are from Simcoe-Muskoka.
- Today's cases include 617 individuals aged 19 and under, 1,424 people between 20 and 39 years old, 954 people between 40 and 59 years old, 380 people between 60 and 79 years old, and 49 people aged 80 and over.
Vaccines
- There were 141,308 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered on May 5, which is up from 132,603 on May 4.
- As of 6 p.m. on May 5, the province reported 5,740,761 doses of vaccine against COVID-19 have been administered.
- In total, 384,589 people have been fully vaccinated.
Public Health Ontario has confirmed 483,057 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 440,467 recoveries and 8,213 deaths, of which 3,929 were individuals living in long-term care facilities.
The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 3,249.8 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.
Ontario's average weekly incidence rate is 163.2 cases per 100,000 people, which is down by 10.2 per cent from last week (April 20 to April 26).

Simcoe-Muskoka
Yesterday, the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit reported 75 new COVID cases.
There are 1,381 active, lab-confirmed cases in the region. Of those, 1,040 are confirmed variant strains.
Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 10,773 cases of COVID-19 with 8,680 of those cases recovered and 230 cases ending in death.
There are 36 people from Simcoe County and three people from Muskoka hospitalized with COVID-19.
To date, 206,252 people in Simcoe-Muskoka region have received their first dose of vaccination against COVID-19, which is about 33 per cent of the region's population. About three per cent of the population has received two doses of vaccine.
The weekly incidence rate for Simcoe-Muskoka region is 95.4 cases per 100,000 people, which is down by 5.5 per cent compared to the week of April 20 to 26.
